It was a real pleasure to see our very own Head Trustee, Bryan Nelson, from the Jamestown Viking Ingjald Lodge, out in the community recently! Bryan was busy handing out $400 donation checks to some fantastic local organizations. We were so happy to support Major John Merchant from the Salvation Army, Billy Witherspoon from UCAN, and Shawn Whitmer from St. Susans/Community Helping Hands. This kind of giving back has been a cherished and longstanding tradition for our local Viking Lodge, and it's something we're incredibly proud of.
We're thrilled to share another instance of our lodge stepping up to help our neighbors! Recently, we were able to make donations to three amazing organizations right here in the community: the St. Susan Center, UCAN, and the Salvation Army. Each received a $300 check from us, all aimed at helping them continue their vital work assisting people in need. You can see our wonderful Past Chief Bryan Nelson presenting a check to Bonnie Scott-Sleight, the Executive Director of the St. Susan Center, and Chief Jane Fosberg handing a check to Jeff Rotunda, the Executive Director at UCAN.
A huge thank you goes out to all our amazing members who volunteered their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army! We truly appreciate you spreading holiday cheer on Wednesday, December 4th, at TOPS Market. We're especially proud to see our Jr. Viking member, Maddie Johnson, pictured here with Kelly Myers – way to go, Maddie!
A big shout-out to our dedicated crew who participated in the Adopt-A-Highway program! It's always great to see our members giving back to the community. Pictured kneeling from the left are Debbie Rohland and Linda Butryn. And standing from the left, we have Ron Krasinski, Vonnie Krasinski, Lori Watson, Beth Ecklund, Ron Mohr, Marlene Sanders, Doug Sanders, Laura Mohr, and Dave Watson. Thanks for keeping our roads clean, everyone!
It was a fantastic team effort when our Viking Officers, including Chief Tim Miller, Vice Chief Steve Kosthorst, and Past Chief and Head Trustee Bryan Nelson, rolled up their sleeves to prepare spaghetti sauce. This delicious endeavor was all for a special benefit dinner held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, aimed at helping the Maple Springs Fire Department raise money for a vital piece of equipment: a LUCAS 2 Chest Compression System. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and all who bought tickets, the event was a huge success, raising approximately $900.00 for this life-saving device. It's always great to see our community come together for such an important cause!
What a truly impactful day it was on October 22, 2011! Our Head Viking Trustee, Bryan Nelson, had the honor of presenting a generous $5,000 check to Chief Doug Conroe of the Maple Springs Fire Department. This significant donation was a huge step in their efforts to acquire a Lucas 2 Chest Compression System — a vital piece of equipment that provides crucial chest compressions for individuals suffering cardiac arrest when a defibrillator can't restart the heart. You can see some of our dedicated members and the fire department leadership in the picture: Tom McClain (EMT), Luann Whitcomb (FD Secretary), our own Chief Tim Miller, Trustee Bryan Nelson, Fire Chief Doug Conroe, and Viking Trustees Bob Greenwalt and Toots Porter.
A massive Viking thank you goes out to Jimmy Scriven and the band Harbour Knights! They truly made a difference by donating their time and incredible talent for the October 22nd benefit. Their contribution was instrumental in raising funds for that essential Lucas 2 system, which carries a cost of $15,000.00. We're also incredibly grateful for everything this band has done for us throughout the year. And of course, a huge Viking thank you to everyone who contributed to the bake sale and to everyone who generously volunteered their time and money; your efforts made the entire benefit a resounding success.
Our Viking Lodge recently teamed up with Fastenal to send essential cleanup supplies to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. We're so proud to have contributed $1,573.77 worth of items, including gloves, shovels, garbage bags, safety glasses, dust masks, and duct tape. These crucial supplies were loaded onto a bus bound for New York City, heading straight to where they were needed most.
You can see some of the dedicated individuals who made this happen in the picture: from left to right, John Shafer (a Fastenal employee), our own "Toots" Porter, Head Viking Trustee Bryan Nelson, Fastenal General Manager Russ Bell, along with Ron Willey, Linda Smith, and Ingjald Lodge Chief Steve Kosthorst. It was a true community effort to help our fellow Americans in their time of need!
